How to Set up Filters
If you are getting notified about irrelevant listings use Swoopa's filters to ensure you only get notified for listings with matching key words
How to refine a search and receive highly targeted results by adding filters like includers and excluders.
- Create your desired search, then let it run for a while so you can see the range of results that come in.
- Go through your feed and have a look at your results. Identify whether or not the results you want to see coming up? Are there unrelated lisitings? If the results you want are there then the search has been successful and you just need to add some filters to get rid of the junk listings that facebook Marketplace is sending.
- Start by adding all the relevant includer words to your search. For the search “couch,” the relevant includer words should be: “Couch,Sofa,lounge,sectional,chesterfield,” note that the term used in the original search needs to be an includer too. Using Swoopa’s filters is a bit like creating a more detailed search inside a general search. It is critical that you get this stage right as if you miss out an important includer, items with that word in the title will be missing. For example, if you didn’t input couch as an includer most of your target listings would not show. This is because most items in the couch search are titled couch. When you’ve got your includers right, all the spam from facebook with irrelevant titles will not show up as they won’t have the matching keywords.
- When you have tried out some single word includers review your results over the next day and check you are still getting the results you wanted and that most of the spam is gone. If the includers were not as effective as you would have liked try adding a two word includer if it is relevant. Two word includers are useful when an dealing with a common word that would also appear in irrelevant lisitings. Pair this word with another word that is specific to the item you want and you can greatly improve the relevancy of your feed. For example “Wood Heater,” is composed of two words that are too common on their own to be very effective as includers, however together they word well as they have a highly specific use when put together.
- If you find that there are still listings you don’t want to see, try adding excluder words. These are words that if present, ALWAYS indicate that the listing is not relevant.
- You can also narrow your results down by blocking sellers you are not interested in. Generally these are other resellers or shops posting new items. You can easily block specific sellers by clicking on the “Block Seller” button on the listing details card. You can unblock them in the settings tab. It is a good idea to go through your feed at the end of your first day and filter out all these sellers so that you don’t waste effort checking alerts for their items in future. (sellers who are flipping items or are selling new items know what they’re doing and are unlikely to post a bargain so get rid of them).
- You can also specify your search radius and minimum and maximum price to ensure the results are as narrow in scope as you require.
